Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless G Router
The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
Once your computers are connected to the Router and the Internet, they can communicate with each other too, sharing resources and files. All your computers can print on a shared printer connected anywhere in the house. And your computers can share all kinds of files -- music, digital pictures, and documents. Keep all your digital music on one computer, and listen to it anywhere in the house. Organize all of your family's digital pictures in one place, to simplify finding the ones you want, and easing backup to CD-R. Utilize extra free space on one computer when another's hard drive starts to fill up.
The new Wi-Fi Protected Setup feature makes it easy to configure your wireless devices. Just push the button on the router and on your other Wi-Fi Protected Setup-enabled wireless device to automatically create a WPA2 connection that protects your data and privacy with up to 256-bit industrial-strength encryption. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Advanced configuration is a snap with the web browser-based interface.
With the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games with flexibility, speed, security and simplicity!

I was surprised to receive a defective recertified router. The first unit I received was unable to transmit effectively beyond 10ft. Compusa handled the problem well providing me with a return UPS label and immediately sending me another unit. Once I got the replacement up and running its performance was on par with similar discount routers from other manufactures. The WRT54G2 is however a significant downgrade from its big brother the WRT54G (previous model with external antennas). While nothing is painfully missing for everyday use, the firmware lacks more advanced features and the signal range at its best is not what I expected from a Linksys product.

This is an initial review, as I just received it yesterday. Works fine. Auto-setup did not work, however, but I didn't expect it to. I did some manual configuration in the router settings, which was not difficult, and I wouldn't assume that ANY router setup software will automatically set up your network and work flawlessly if you are setting up an encrypted connection with WEP, WPK, etc. You should have encryption if you don't want your neighbors slowing down your connection by using it, or hacking into your computer or home network. This has a very useful bunch of QOS settings in the manual setup ''pages,'' so if you do online gaming or use a VOIP telephone like Tin Can Talk, you can optimize your setup for those. Overall, great value. Don't forget to change your router password from ''admin'' to something else (not a dictionary word) since every router it seems uses the same password and people do like to hack these things. No printed manual-your manual is on the CD.

I purchased this router from TD and have had no problems whatsoever. XP did all the setup and all i had to do was reset my cable modem...oh yeah, and connect a couple cables to it of course. The onscreen instructions were clear and the router did all the setup by itself. Thanks Linksys and TD!!!

Be careful with this product. I got a real defect unit. Orderly last month, received it quickly from Tiger. Followed all the directions, however the installer process stoped and failed at the step when it was trying to detect this router. Tried the same installation process on two pcs, all the same result. I am returning the one for an exchange right now. Hope the replacement will not be like that.
Considering the headache of getting defect product and the limited exchange policy (no return for such product, so you got stuck with it), I think i should have just spent a little bit more on a new unit in the first place.

buyer beware,, the router lasted 32 days, just long enough to not be able to return.. it was very hard to keep connected, had to continually reset up and then just went out... refurbished crap...
