A Washington state judge ruled that former Microsoft Corp. Vice President Kai-Fu Lee can begin helping Google Inc. set up operations in China, but restricted him from crucial business decision-making and recruiting staff from Microsoft.
The decision is an interim step in a suit filed in July by Microsoft, which accused Google and Mr. Lee of violating a noncompete agreement that Mr. Lee had signed with Microsoft.
